Hood's Dari-Treat was owned and operated by the parents of a member of the OHS Class of 1957, Deana Hood. Karen Wilson Howard of the OHS Class of 1957 says she remembers it well since they did not live very far away and she was allowed to walk there. Karan said that she remembers they sold all the same things the Dairy Queen did at the other end of town. Karan said Deana and she were good friends and she thinks Deana had an older sister Velma. Karan remembers that the Dari-Treat was on the corner of the Hood property and their house was to the left and sat back a little. Deana Hood Robertson died in 1998 in Arizona City, AZ.
An ad for the Dari-Treat in the 1956 OHS Annual on page 140 reads:
"THE DARI-TREAT just can't be beat. It's the place to meet, and the place to eat.
At 1101 North Main Street. Julia---The Hoods---Cecil."
A similar ad is in the 1957 OHS Annual.
The Dari-Treat sold Richardson Root Beer and had Foot-Long Hot Dogs for 25 cents. They had soft-serve ice cream, hot chili, Coca-Cola and Kwiki DO-Nuts. What else did the Dari-Treat sell?
Those of you who traded at Hood's or who can tell us more about this business please let us hear from you. When did it open? When did it close? Did any of you work there? Please e-mail Morgan Williams.

Cecil Hood's Dari-Treat at 1101 N. Main was a place to get $ .25 hotdogs and Richardson root beer in the 1950s. A house now sits directly north of the restaurant site, but its concrete pad and the sign's base still survive.
