From The Ottawa Recorder (Annual) for May, 1957:

"OHS Band, Dressed in Colorful new Uniforms, Marches at KU. Band Day and Performs At Home Football Games"

"A new sparkle was noticed in the appearance of the Ottawa High School band last fall (1956) when the new uniforms, for which the members had been waiting for several years, appeared. Proudly showing off their uniforms, the members presented interesting formations
at the football half-time ceremonies, and represented OHS at Kansas University's Band Day, the Ottawa University Homecoming Parade, and the Veteran's Day Parade. The group went to Atchison to perform during the Ottawa-Atchison football half-time.

"The band was not only a marching unit, it gave concerts too.  The concerts for the year included one at Valley Falls, a joint concert with Highland Park at Ottawa on April 12 and the annual home performance on April 29 (1957).

"The group was divided into three pep bands to play for basketball games and pep assemblies.

"The year was climaxed in the late spring by the election of the drum major, twirlers, and officers for the following year. This year's drum major was Morgan Williams, and the officers were Bob Kile, president; Sheldon Meats, vice-president and equipment manager; Jolene Brink, secretary; and Kathy Archer, treasurer; William Barker is sponsor" (END)
